A tool you can use while browsing this site to improve literacy.
Overwhelmed by the amount of work it must take to improve your literacy? Actually, something as simple as checking your word count online can help you see if maybe you’re communicating too much – or not quite enough – and refine what you want to say in each situation.
Type some text into the box at the link below (example: “My favorite color is blue because it is like the sky”) and watch the word count below update as you type. If you do this often, you’ll be able to better recognize how many words you are usually typing and set your writing goals. Your recognition of sentence structure will also improve, encouraging your brain to process information more quickly (no, really!)
Enter text into the box after clicking the link below (I use this one personally):
Wasn’t that easy? Do you feel more literate? Something else I find helpful with a word counting tool is enabling myself to be able to understand information more easily. If I have a large chunk of text to read, I will break it into pieces depending on word count. Now you try!
