Accredited Charities:
- ProLiteracy focuses on the advancement of adult literacy throughout the world. Just in the United States, “60 million US adults read at the lowest levels, while 72 million are at the lowest levels for numeracy,” making it vital to increase literacy in today’s online world.
- The World Literacy Foundation not only provides children with physical educational resources but combines that with technologies and digital activities to improve the literacy and lives of children all around the world.
In Your Community:
- Volunteer spare time to organize a group or tutor for your community like the Brink Literacy Program.
- Focus on what you think your community is most in need of/would respond to regarding literacy, like Brink’s comic book “book club” format.
- Volunteer at places which already have reading/literacy programs, such as your local library!
- You can choose this option if you don’t have much spare time but still want to make an impact on those in your community without all the hassle.

- You’ll learn how to use a computer and navigate the Internet from the ground up, all for free! Everyone starts somewhere, and this site is a high-quality place to begin.
- Try using what you’ve learned on this site to visit websites with friends and family who wish to improve their literacy as well. They’ll learn more by example and in practice.
- For example, take turns by demonstrating the use of an extension such as Bionic Reading, then have them navigate to a new page and use the extension.
